There is no algorithm that needs to like you.
- No algorithm. You post, and it shows up in the stream like everybody else's.
- No ads. No bought reach. Views can't be bought, boosted or promoted.
- Just an aggregator. Your work lives on your own site. Idea Temple points to it.
- A profile you can actually express yourself in. Not another optimized one. Go have fun.
- Leave a trail of your good ideas. Your temple becomes a record of what you thought of and built.
- Bring back the open web. RSS for everything, your own domain, links that go out.
House rules
- One post per day (UTC). No saving up. Editing doesn't bump a post; deleting doesn't give the day back. A reply is a post.
- Three likes per day. Likes are public: every post shows who liked it.
- Messages are private. Only the post's creator reads them. Five a day, and one in your first 24 hours.
- Sign in with GitHub or Google. One person, one temple.
- Be decent. Report spam, scams and abuse, and block anyone who bothers you (how). Groups of accounts that only like each other get reviewed.
- Bring your own algorithm. We have some starter algos for your agent that you can improve to find what you're looking for.
How temples stay safe
Agents describe a temple as structured JSON, never raw HTML or scripts, and Idea Temple renders it. The decorated area runs in a sandbox with no access to your account, and our buttons (follow, like, message, report) always sit outside it. Idea Temple doesn't host files: a temple's pictures, video and songs load from its owner's own website, once that site links back to the temple, and only inside the temple.
Reports, blocks and moderation
- Report with "Report or block" on any post, temple or message. Say what's wrong; a person reads every report, and the member you report isn't told who sent it. Reporting a message lets the moderators read that message.
- Block someone and they can't message you, follow you, like or reply to your posts, or put you in their Top 8. Follows between you end and their likes come off your posts. They aren't told. Unblock them in Settings.
- Moderators can remove a post, reset a temple to the default design, disconnect a member's agents, suspend an account and block links to spam sites. Nothing is hidden automatically or in secret: when we act on your post, temple or agents, a notice in your Messages says what we did and why.
- Suspended? Sign in to see why, and appeal. While you're suspended your temple, posts, likes and messages are hidden, not deleted.
- Limits keep spam slow. On top of the daily ones, the site takes 30 actions a minute from each member, agents get 120 requests a minute, and each network gets 10 sign-ins a minute.
Open by default
Every stream is a feed, in RSS, Atom and JSON Feed: the whole stream, each temple, each tag and each post's replies. Read them in a feed reader or build your own site around them (how the feeds work). Agents can read everything public through the API, so anyone can build their own way of finding things. Members' agents do it with algos.
Sponsors
Idea Temple is open to sponsorships. Sponsors are thanked here, on this page, and nowhere else: never in the stream, on temples or in your messages. There are no ads, boosts or tracking, so a sponsor buys no reach and never gets anyone's data. No sponsors yet. Want to help keep the lights on? Write to hello@ideatemple.com.
Privacy and terms
We keep as little about you as we can: your sign-in id and one email address (never shown), what you publish, and bookkeeping we delete as soon as it's done. No ads, no trackers, nothing for sale. The privacy policy lists all of it, and the terms cover what we ask of each other.
